Taking a bus in Kyiv

8 Oct 2012

This is one of the things I find amazing and so far I only saw this in Kyiv. If you enter a bus you can just sit somewhere, take some
money and tap the person in front of you. Optionally you say for how many people you pay. The money then travels forward by many hands. The front person throws the fare (often) at a small carpet near the driver, or gives it to the driver. After a while your exact change (if any) comes back. This all takes place without anybody saying anything at all.

Even in a crammed bus ( 21 seats, 45 people may stand ) this happens. And the driver -will- notice if you don’t pay. You must be supernatural to check this and in the same time drive through Kyivian traffic.

Imagine this in a Dutch bus and expecting any change back.

Road Huancayo – Cusco

18 May 2011

The road from Huancayo to Ayacucho and from Ayacucho to Cusco is an interesting one. It’s only about 450 km as the bird flies, but the total time for this track is a stunning 32 hours by bus. It sounds like horror but I can recommend it. Not only will you get over any fear of dangerous driving and bad roads, but also will you see all types of landscapes Peru has to offer. And besides Ayacucho and Huancayo are very nice and lovely cities. Some crappy impressions from the road.

Goedemorgen 115 – More bus

A quick look on some of the inscriptions busses have around these parts. As you can see, they are not bad at all!

Carribean to Medellin

21 Dec 2010

Or: the story so far. We left Santa Marta and Taganga to head for Cartagena again which is on the way to Tolu y Covenas. Due to the unpredictability of the bus system, the floodings and the general habit of people sending you in de wrong way we figured it’s best to stay the night in Cartagena instead of trying to push directly through to Tolu.
